Inspiration... 2nd Installment

The reasons behind this trip aren't all sunshine and lollipops. My hope is that the trip prolongs a heartwrenching cottoncandy sunset for as long as possible.

I wouldn't be running from my HOME if I didn't think it was necessary. When a big oil-driven machine catches flame you get away before it explodes. Even the simplest Hollywood action flicks teach you that. Knowing you're powerless to put out the fire puts you in a tough spot. You can all it cowardice. I call it survival.

On a planetary scale, I'm only slightly bigger and stronger than this dog, Mr. Beans... and definitely less influential. Also, he has better hair and gets more attention from the ladies. I rest my case. Vagabonding segway into piracy it is.

Inspiration... 2nd Installment. The darker side. Fun Hog Eco-Business Outdoorsman Yvon Choinard in 1992 as quoted in Above the Roar: Interviews With 50 Surfers.

Your general thoughts on the environment and the future?
"You want the truth? It's hopeless. It's completely hopeless. Civilization is out of control, growing way beyond its resources, and it will destroy itself. Anyone who really thinks we're in charge, that we can honestly change the course we're on... well, they're mistaken."

If you take in the world's hopelessness without creating your own hope, life becomes a pointless chore offering only cynical laughs and holier-than-thou power trips. Yvon reconciles all the conflict in his life and succeeds in business while doing what he can to have fun and make things a little better.

For the adrenaline-driven followers of that philosophy, progressively scarier recreation can get you through life... if it doesn't kill you.

For us mountain bums, recreation RECREATES what life is really supposed to be like in the midst of the big lie. Free up those days. Sleep soundly every night. Exhaust your aggressions and take in the beauty of being a vulnerable part of the natural world. Climb up and take the plunge.

Where's Waldo?

My eventual goal wouldn't be Patagonian Argentina if I didn't see a hopeful future there. Even if this boat sinks on the first day out, I'll get back there.

The boat is just for ESTILLO. Tricks are for kids like cars and planes are for lazy people. Foundationally pointless and fundamentally counterproductive, they are.

I had to throw in a couple big ones.

Good form transcends convention. Stick it to the MAN, or whatever the hell is really in control.

I really hope we make it. Its time to get going.
