Worldwide Radiation Monitoring Websites... Real Time, Independent, Official, and Historical

Global Radiation Monitoring Websites (update 10/4/11)

Many independent and government monitoring sites are designed to show real time radiation information.

This post was last updated on 10/4/11.  Please add any additional Radiation Monitoring Websites you may know of to the comments section.  I will review submissions and post the sources that appear reputable.

NORTH AMERICA

RadiationNetwork.com: independent, monitors ~35 locations in North America.  The map updates every minute.  For full functionality, buy their software.  Better yet, use home computer and an approved Geiger Counter to add your own automatically updating station to the Radiation Network Map

BlackCatSystems Radiation Detector Map: similar to RadiationNetwork.com but with a more user friendly map.  Fewer detectors than RadiationNetwork.com but servicing different locations.

USA, EPA, official monitoring sites: Now featuring an interactive map to view “Near-Real-Time” stationary air monitor dataNote: The EPA has NOT been conducting significant Precipitation, Drinking Water, and Milk tests in the months since the Fukushima meltdowns.  Additionally, the results of EPA tests are not easily accessed, easy to read, or otherwise user friendly.  They could do a lot more and make it much more user friendly.

TaraTest.com: real time monitoring in Petaluma, CA, Ashland, OR, Anchorage, AK and Maui, HI.

USA, Santa Monica, West LA: independent source, real time, live video of geiger counter.

EUROPE

EURDEP (European Radiological Data Exchange Platform): Official Monitoring Stations (several hundred) showing radioactivity levels (map) across Europe. Must allow pop ups from EURDEP in your web browser, but the map is worth it.

Switzerland Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz: Monitors Switzerland with 63 locations, updated daily.

Germany Bundesamtes für Strahlenschutz : 1800 monitoring stations across Germany, updated daily.

Austria Strahlenfrühwarnsystem Österreich: Official monitoring sites with 100 locations across Austria.

Russia Offical Monitoring Site: needs latest flash player to view.  Very slick map interface.  Why can’t the US EPA build us one of these?

Serbia Official Monitoring Sites: 15 sites, update every 30 minutes.

Slovenia, Official Monitoring Sites: Over 70 sites, updated regular, measurement in Nano Sievert

JAPAN

Japan’s Independent SafeCast.org: Largest community of independent monitoring sites with over 500,000 radiation data points across Japan.  The whole world needs a service like this!

Japan Instititue for Information Design: Impressive number of monitoring stations mapped in Google Earth and more.

Japan Official Prefectural: official prefectures monitoring sites, updated several times daily.

Hino, Tokyo, Japan: Independent source, real time. Mirror Site

Tokyo and Japan: 22 independent sources, shared via twitter, link to the data tables, updates at different intervals dependent on source (varies between minutes and hours)

Kashiwazaki Kariwa Power Plant, Japan: seven monitoring stations, if you click on the monitoring data over the last five days is shown in diagram.

Greenpeace, Japan: Past data measured by Greenpeace, NOT UPDATED.

ASIA

Hong Kong, China, Hong Kong Observatory: Official monitoring site, hourly update of the radiation data of the 10 official radiation monitoring sites in Hong.

Russia Offical monitoring sites: needs latest flash player to view.  Very slick map interface.  Why can’t the US EPA build us one of these?
